So just about the end of another year and the final Time Of The Month mix of 2010 , first Thank You to all of you who have downloaded mixes , 2010 was another giant step forward for me & vwat.

December's mix is as normally an extended mix and this year is no different , there is generally never a concept to the mixes other then tracks mix together ( well to me they do ) but this year i got to thinking about Christmas and the end of 2010.

A penny dropped in my small brain that Christmas has always meant music to me , Santa always left me L.P's which i played over and over and over from the age of 3.

Then as i got older , there was the sneak around to some friend's house after the adult's passed out after dinner , then the gathered friend's would bail into the back room.

Booze & ciggies be pulled out and the evening would be spent talking about stuff i have long forgotten but i still remember clearly the music playing from each of those years.

My first job was in a record shop and it started a whole 6 weeks before Christmas ( record shops now sadly see very little boost in sales as it seems music is no longer a gift , i have written to Santa via his Blackberry about this............... explaining this is not how i remember it been............still no answer but he's busy around this time of the year )

Further along the road Christmas meant all night parties , we where raving our t_t's off , now friends had there own places , most of this is a complete blur but i still remember the music that formed those parties as if it was yesterday , the raving selections , the morning after wine and sparkie's chill sessions.

As silly as it sounds i would like to dedicate this months audio to all them friends who i have lost touch with , moved away , left us way too early or just got lost.

Focus... - "Homage To Ali Shaheed" feat. Von Pea, Donwill & Chaundon

Though Tanya Morgan members Von Pea and Donwill are currently taking the time to focus on their respective solo projects, this doesn't stop their frequent collaborations. On this occasion, they are brought together by Focus... for the latest in his series of tracks paying homage to hip-hop greats. This song, specifically, is a tribute to Ali Shaheed, the much-revered A Tribe Called Quest producer and also features a verse from Chaundon of Hall of Justus, who is fresh off the release of his latest album, No Excuses, as well as his performance with the HOJ crew at the Audible Treats 2010 CMJ Showcase.

As for the origins of the track, it makes total sense that it features members of Tanya Morgan, as the group has worked with Ali Shaheed in the past. Becoming a part of the homage was simple and surprisingly quick, as Donwill explains. "Focus... does these homages, like, monthly and Von had put me on to 'em. After the RZA one dropped, I went to Twitter and said, 'Somebody tell Focus... I want in.' Within 2 re-Tweets he was following me and we had moved to Gmail." Von Pea, Donwill, and Chaundon do a commendable job pulling off the A Tribe Called Quest vibe, and their contributions have led to another solid installment in Focus...'s series.

This isn’t street music, it’s dark alley music. If Hitchcock was still alive, wore hoodies and had a tendency to cut up paranoia-drenched vocal samples over the heaviest of drums; he’d definitely be hanging out with Germany’s Bedlam Mind. Released on the ever-expanding Community Skratch Music label, ‘Hypermetabola’ is an intense moody stumble into the grey dimensions of collaborators Minimal Orchestra and Chinch 33, filled with 10 viral tracks that push the listener further into their bio-chemical and psychologically-obsessed world. This is indeed an intense body of work, with no respite from the terrifying nightmare it strives to paint in our sub-conscious, which ultimately benefits the experience for those brave enough to venture into these ominous skratch terrains. Minimal Orchestra’s production lies somewhere between John Carpenter’s panic-ridden soundtrack work and the acid-freakouts of French nutjob Jean Pierre Massiera; a suitably sinister sonic sculpture for Chinch 33 to overlay some choice 1940′s dialogue scrapes and scratches. And its all exceedingly dope. The opening introduction stands as a perfect statement of intent, a climatic piece that grows continually more threatening with the use of it’s sensationally menacing pounding floor toms. There’s no sunshine to be found as you creep further into the album, but tracks such as ‘Poison’ and ‘Sickness’ underline how fantastic and addictive the dark-side can be. These fiends never push the showboating in terms of wrist-&-fader skills, instead focusing on creating something of true depth and atmosphere throughout. Yes, positive smiley people will hate this music, but that, of course, is the point. This is one for the heads, for the souls who watch a muted-Clockwork Orange on 8mm projectors and blast Madlib instrumentals in the background while drinking detergent for kicks. Probably the strongest release so far on the Community Skratch label, Bedlam Mind have created a world that D-Styles occasionally hinted existed on ‘Phantasmagora’. Grab some candles and a Ouija board and bang this shit until the Satan appears. Awesome.

Teknizzel a.k.a. Ciaran Wilkinson from Cork has set up a pretty sweet little podcast, with 2 installments so far. Ep.1 called the "Hard Stuff" is full with up to date hip hop from acts such as Elzhi,  Jay Electronica, Oddisse, DJ Spinna, Scarface and many more. Installment number 2 entitled "The Soul Stuff" is laced with enuff classic soul to motivate Clayton Bigsby to at least do the two step. The mother of Michael Larsen says her son died in his sleep from unexplained causes at home in St. Paul on Saturday. Kathy Averill says she's waiting for autopsy results.

Larsen and his childhood friend, Max Keltgen, recorded three albums as Eyedea and Abilities under Atmosphere's label, Rhymesayers Entertainment. Eyedea and Abilities were Atmosphere's backup rapper and turntablist in the late 1990s. "
