DA MONDAY "LUNCH" BREAK...........MELVIN BLISS ( BERNARD PURDIE ON STICK'S ) " SYNTHETIC SUBSTITUTION "
SO " FUNKY DRUMMER " , " ROCKET IN THE POCKET " , " GET OUT OF MY LIFE WOMAN " , " APACHE " , " IT'S MY THING " LITERALLY BREAKS THAT ARE ON A FIRST NAME BASIS WITH FAN'S OF SAMPLING , HIP HOP AND BEYOND
THIS PURDIE DRUMMED BREAK DOESN'T TEND TO BE NAME DROPPED OR HAVE THE LEGACY OF THE ABOVE YET IT MUST BE ONE OF THE MOST SAMPLED TRACKS OF ALL TIME.
ANOTHER CURIOUS THING IS THAT IT SUITED BOTH COASTS..........IT'S BEEN LOOPED , CHOPPED , SPEEDED UP AND DOWN.......PARTY TRACKED...GANGSTA BOPPED.
FIRST 16 BARS ( PIANO SECTION ) HAVE APPEARED ON COUNTLESS RECORDS FROM GANGSTA , TO HORROR-CORE TO ALL OUT PARTY TRACKS SO THE MOOD OF THE RECORDING HASN'T STREAMLINED IT CHOICE AMONGST PRODUCERS.
IS IT THE OPEN - CLOSED HI-HATS DRAGGING AT THE END OF THE SNARE ?
IT DOESN'T MATTER , IT IS JUST A PLAIN OLD FUNKY AZZ TRACK RUMORED TO BE CUT AS A FILLER FOR A B-SIDE.
I WONDER WHAT DJ DROPPED DOUBLE COPIES OF THIS FIRST ......WHAT WAS THE AUDIENCE'S REACTION ?......PURE FIYA IN MY IMAGINATION.
TO BE HONEST I COULD LISTEN TO THIS BREAK LOOOPED FOR A GOOD 37 HOURS AND NOT BE BORED.
LADIES AND GENTLEMEN , BOY & GIRL HERE IS
MELVIN BLISS ( BERNARD PURDIE ON THE STICKS ) " SYNTHETIC SUBSTITUTION "
AS WITH A LOT OF SAMPLING HISTORY THE CREATORS HAVE VERY LITTLE TO SHOW FOR THEIR WORK ( READ "BROKE AS A MUTHAF_CKER" ) , IT APPEARS IN THE WAVE OF THE " BEAT DIGGERS " HEYDAY OF THE EARLY 90'S TIL 2005 ( FOR ME THE WATERSHED IN " DA INDUSTRY " ) THAT THESE CAT'S DIDN'T GET BOOKED FOR RETRO SHOWS , HALF HOUR DOC'S ON THE FOUNDATIONS OF HIP HOP OR " SHOWCASE " DOUBLE BILL'S OF DJ'S AND FOREFATHERS.
LIFE GOES ON AND MORE AND MORE OF THESE PIVITOL PLAYERS ( NOT THAT THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN AWARE OF THE INFLUENCE THEY WOULD HAVE ON MODERN MUSIC ) ARE PASSING ON.
STRANGE DAYZ OF FREE MUSIC AND KNOWLEDGE WE LIVE IN AND YET FOR ALL OF IT NOT MUCH FANFARE THIS JULY WHEN BLISS ( RUMORED TO BE 75....I LOVE THAT NO ONE WAS SURE HOW OLD HE WAS ) PASSED WAY.
HERE IS A TRAILER FOR A DOCUMENTARY ON WHAT IS BASICALLY 6-8 SECOUNDS OF MUSIC.
R.I.P MELVIN BLISS
THE RECORD THAT BUSTED OPEN THE CHART DOORS TO HIP HOP AT THE START OF THE 90'S AND STILL FILLS FLOORS JUST FROM THE DRUM BREAK INTRO.

SHADOW & CHEMIST.....................
MC SHAN IN BIZZARE ENGLISH ACCENTED INTRO...
JEFF HAS FLIPPED THE BREAK A GOOD FEW TIMES.....THIS WAN IS CRUNCHY

Boog Brown & Apollo Brown - "Just Be"
Detroit based producer Apollo Brown and Atlanta based rapper Boog Brown are at it again. The pair’s first collaborations resulted in the enchanting mixtape The Grind Season Vol. 1, a tantalizing taste of what was soon to come. The wait will finally be over when the duo release their first full-length album Brown Study on September 28, 2010, via Mello Music Group. The long-awaited album will feature the likes of Miz Korona, Invincible, Kam Moye, and Kenn Starr.
The first single off of Brown Study is the sensual “Just Be,” an intimate whisper that floats over Apollo Brown’s shimmering samples and passionate groove, inspiring the intense pleasures of living in the present and savoring every moment. Boog expressed that desire, advising us to “Live in the moment. In all things, intimacy, joy, pain, hurt, loss, gain, triumph. All of that -- be in it. Feel it, because it’s the fabric of life. Blink and it's gone.” Powerful and vibrant lyrics such as “Enraptured in the scent/ This is bliss at length/ From start to the finish/ Euphoric/ Absorbed in the ebullience/ Elegant every sense awakened” meld with Apollo’s sampled soft horns, sweeping strings, and chimes, echoing his thought that "'Just Be' is one of those songs that exude passion and feeling. We don't have a lot of true feeling in the music now days. Emcees and producers shouldn't be afraid to express themselves exactly how they please.”
Boog Brown and Apollo Brown’s album Brown Study will be available September 28th via Mello Music Group.

Buff1 - Ghosting (mixtape)
Ghosting is a project that gives listeners insight on the types of artists and music that inspires Buff1. Giving himself one week to write original material, Buff1 created this free project to be released into the blogosphere. Choosing songs that coincidentally had space for Buff1 to spit, none of the original songs have been edited.
Buff felt there were obvious similarities between the music on this project and one of his favorite Ghostface songs “Holla”; on which Ghost raps over the entire Delfonic’s song “La-La Means I Love You”. Ghosting also happens to be a game where one person follows behind another, mimicking their movements as closely as possible, without being detected.
The Ghostface homage, combined with Buff1 trying his best to follow in the footsteps of the artists who inspired him to write this project, made the title obvious. Lastly, don’t sleep on the exclusive bonus track “Better” produced by Slot-A. Grab the download here

DJ A.Vee Podcast

This is one for you golden era hip hop fans out there. Brooklyn born DJ A.Vee a.k.a Shoe Heffner has been around since 1988, and over the years he's dj'ed for the likes of Black Rob, Masta Ace, J-Live, Afu-Ra, Paul Barmen, and many more. Now a days he's touring the globe with the likes of Jazzy Jeff and Prince Paul and can be heard on Eminem's Shade 45 radio. And if thats not enuff A.Vee takes the time out to deliver a top notch podcast which you can check out here.
Apollo Brown - The Reset Instrumentals - Free Download
Renowned producer Apollo Brown releases The Reset Instrumentals today. The smooth, soulful instrumentals allow listeners to get a cleaner listen to the work of Apollo Brown. There is little doubt that fans will use the tracks to create their own remixes and mash-ups using their favorite rappers' acapellas. Even without vocals, The Reset Instrumentals have enough catchy hooks and head-nodding riffs to warrant being a stand-alone album.
Tracks like "Seasons" and "Balance" showcase the producer's ability to show his softer side. "Seasons" features disparate harmonies and an occasional sampled "what you want me to do" vocal over melancholy guitar picking that proves Apollo Brown can flawlessly blend genre's of soul and hip-hop. "Real Detroit" and "Streets Won't Let Me Chill" are still influenced by soul, but have much sharper, heavier beats. It's clear Apollo Brown has a lot of versatility as a producer.
Apollo Brown is not finished for 2010; on the contrary, he will be involved with at least two more collaborations by the end of the year. These collaborations include but are not limited to the album Brown Study as half of the group UPS with Boog Brown, and the long-awaited Gas Mask LP as one-third of The Left with DJ SoKo and MC Journalist 103.
